I try to craft a poem, to construct a sturdy prayer box, but the words collapse, scatter, alphabet detritus littered across the page. With a new day’s optimism, I trade hammer for spoon, yet stirring the words yields a feeble stew, bland and watery in the pot. What if the poet’s gift has flown to richer hosts? I panic at such a thought, then remember what to do. I reach for the rich words of others, feed on Anne Sexton’s “mother-broth,” seed my ground with borrowed bounty. I await the promise of plenty.
Poems & Paraboles publishes work that illuminates, awakens, or opens a small window toward wonder. Some pieces are quiet. Some are bold. Some carry a moral thread, while others wander into the mysterious and ethereal.
Poets and storytellers are invited to submit their work. Selected pieces will be posted and featured throughout the year. See Submission Guidelines!

Thank you Kellie for sharing your poem with us! I find it very encouraging. I’ve had many seasons of doubts and dry spells, so your insight into the topic is a blessing.
